X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009) Review

X-Men Origins: Wolverine is based on Marvel comics character Wolverine. The film talks about a time before what is shown in the X-Men film series and focuses on the mutant Wolverine and how he came to be. So if you are a X-Men fan, you should be watching

The film based roughly 20 years before the film X-Men enlightens the viewer of the origin of Wolverine and his special powers and indestructibility. Actor Hugh Jackman plays the role of Wolverine as he has in previous X-Men films, so a familiar face to watch for.

A lot of hype is being created around this film, and indeed the trailer is very good, but the film actually lacks real content. The initial part of the story when Wolverine is a boy is glossed over during the titles. The story beings with him being a man and joining Team X. The film then drags on endlessly all the time building a suspense. There are a few twists and heartbreaks but nothing great happens.

Slowly the viewer is made to eagerly expect Wolverines confrontation with the ultimate weapon Weapon XI. However when this confrontation actually happens it is over fairly quickly and looks extremely silly. The brainless remote-controlled ultimate weapon falls to pieces fairly quickly without much fuss. Even video game bosses are tougher.

There is a lot of extreme, ruthless and mostly unnecessary violence spewed throughout the film and lots of action shots. Overall it is a very predictable action movie where the US government plans to build the ultimate fighting weapon and things don't go as planned..., there is no need to think. Each scene follows one from the other. So grab a bag of popcorn to your seat. You will have plenty of time to munch.
